A SPRING WEDDING AT KINGSCOTE BARN

Spring weddings at Kingscote Barn are a lovely combination of fresh countryside, changing weather and those first longer days of the year. Chloe and Andrew’s wedding was a perfect example as they had planned an outdoor ceremony, but typically British spring weather meant making a last-minute change of plan.

Thankfully, Kingscote Barn has beautiful options both inside and out, so moving the ceremony indoors didn’t take anything away from the day. And when the rain eventually cleared, we were able to make the most of the grounds, including the bespoke outdoor ceremony arch they had created, before heading off for a relaxed walk around the countryside.

With Scottish kilts, a very cute dog, plenty of sheep, candlelit wooden beams and a Ceilidh that got progressively more chaotic as the evening went on, this was a wonderfully relaxed spring wedding at Kingscote Barn.

AN INDOOR SPRING CEREMONY

Chloe and Andrew had originally planned to get married outside, but spring had other ideas. With the weather looking decidedly unpredictable, they made the sensible decision to move their ceremony indoors. One of the things I love about Kingscote Barn is that you can have a beautiful wedding whatever the weather brings. The indoor ceremony space has its own character, so there was no sense that they had somehow had to compromise because their original plans had changed.

There was a lovely Scottish influence running through the day too, with Andrew’s family arriving in traditional kilts and Scottish dress. Andrew waited at the end of the aisle while Chloe walked towards him on her father’s arm, one of those simple moments that is always so lovely to witness.

MAKING THE MOST OF A BREAK IN THE WEATHER

After the ceremony, the rain finally eased and we had a little window of better weather. This is one of the reasons I love photographing weddings in spring as you don’t necessarily need a whole day of sunshine. Sometimes you just need twenty minutes.

Chloe and Andrew had had a bespoke arch made for their planned outdoor ceremony, so once the weather cleared we took the opportunity to photograph their confetti outside beneath the arch, which gave them the outdoor photographs they had originally imagined.

Afterwards, we went for a relaxed walk around Kingscote Barn. There was no need to spend ages posing or disappear for a long portrait session. We simply took a little time together, walked around the grounds and made the most of the countryside while the weather allowed. I love seeing the sheep! Each and every time I go there, the sheep just melt my heart! Chloe and Andrew’s little dog also made a brief appearance for photos!

This is one of my favourite parts of a wedding day because it doesn’t need to feel like a formal portrait session. We simply walked, chatted and stopped whenever I saw something I liked. The countryside around Kingscote Barn gives you plenty to work with, from the beautiful Cotswold landscape to the little unexpected moments that happen along the way.

A RELAXED RECEPTION AND CEILIDH BAND

The reception room looked so beautiful..amidst it’s warm wooden beams and candlelight glow, it had the perfect ambience. After speeches and the meal, it was time for cake cutting and dancing. Chloe and Andrew had chosen a Ceilidh band which is always enormous fun to photograph. I love how everyone starts off a little awkward, not knowing what to do, and within a few minutes, the dancefloor is a happy mix of chaotic fun. I love a Ceilidh band !
